Charlotte is committed to creating more green spaces and with over 200 parks and preserves already within the borders of Mecklenburg County, there is so much for people to enjoy. Here are just a few of our favorite spots to check out this summer…

Reedy Creek Nature Preserve

Reedy Creek Nature Preserve has over 730 acres of protected habitat for our local ecological system and a tremendous nature center with programs for all ages.  Two fishing ponds, an 18-hole disc golf course, and a dog park are all fun to explore. Guided hikes, meditation sessions, and exploratory classes for kids are all widely available too!

Latta Nature Preserve

Latta Nature Preserve is a fantastic place to spend the day with a 16-miles of hiking trails, places to kayak, and some really excellent experiences at the Quest Center and the Carolina Raptor Center.  We always look forward to sharing the trails with horses out for a ride!

Ramsey Creek Park

Ramsey Creek Park is another favorite for us.  With a small beach for public swimming in Lake Norman, a huge playground with massive slides, nature trails, and a fishing pier, there is something for everyone.  Of course, being able to hit Hello, Sailor on the way back is the icing on the cake.

U.S. National Whitewater Center

The Whitewater Center is easily one of the best places to take out-of-town guests to show off our city.  There is no lack of paid activities available from the obvious white water rafting in the man-made facility to free-fall rock climbing into a pool.  River Jam weekends are a Charlotte tradition and the Whitewater Center is continually adding more attractions and adventures to keep you coming back for more.

Is there another green space you love that should be on my list? If you have a favorite, share it in the comments below so I can check it out. I look forward to seeing you on the trails!
